It is a colorless liquid that has a very high corrosive power and smells like vinegar and dissolves easily in water. It also has good solubility in tetrachloromethane, ether, ethanol and acetone.

Applications of acetic acid :

.1 Medical use: Acetic acid can be used as an antiseptic against staphylococci, enterococci, streptococci and others. It is also used in uterine cancer screening. The World Health Organization has listed acetic acid in its list of essential medicines. It is also used to treat external ear infections such as fungal and bacterial growths.

.2 Production of chemical compounds: Ethanoic acid is used as a chemical reagent to produce a number of chemical compounds. It is mainly used in the production of vinyl acetate monomer, anhydride acetate and ester.

.3 As a food additive: This substance is used in vinegar, which is used as a supplement in pickles, raw vegetables and other foods.

.4 Purification of Organic Compounds: To purify organic compounds, acetic acid is used as a solvent for crystallization.

.5 Production of acetates: This substance can be used as a raw material in the production of acetates such as iron acetate, silver, copper, sodium, etc.

.6 Production of ink and paint: This acid is used to produce paint and ink.

.7 Perfume industry: Acetic acid is also used in making perfume.

.8 Bacterial growth control: The above product is used to control bacterial growth in the medical and food industries.
