Ammonium chloride is an inorganic compound and a white crystalline salt that is highly soluble in water. Ammonium chloride is a mild acidic solution in the form of a reaction between hydrochloric acid and ammonia.

Ammonium chloride is a systemic and urinary acidifying salt. It helps maintain the pH and has a diuretic effect. This salt also has an expectorant effect by stimulating the mucous membrane and is used to relieve cough.

Applications of ammonium chloride:

Medicine: In medicine, this substance is used as an expectorant in cough medicines.

Flotation: Giant squid and some other large squid species use ammonium chloride solution, which is found throughout their bodies, to float in seawater because it is less dense than seawater.

Industrial: Ammonium chloride is used as a flux in the preparation of metals, for coating tin, galvanizing or soldering.
